Staying true to yourself as a florist

How does Pauline Joris stand out as a florist and entrepreneur?
“To stand out, I try not to look too much at others and instead focus on doing what I enjoy. I try to reflect my personality in the shop. Putting yourself in the spotlight can be difficult, but I think it’s necessary to show yourself and your team. We have so much love for the craft and for flowers – I truly hope that shows in our shop.”

The next generation

“Every week, a father comes in with his two kids to buy fresh flowers. It’s so lovely to see. Children are full of wonder when it comes to nature. I always give them a little flower or let them help sweep the floor. My own daughter is often in the shop too, and she enjoys making a little vase with flowers all by herself. It surprises me how happy flowers can make children already. I hope I can inspire this new generation, because floral training programmes in the Netherlands could use a bit more popularity. It’s a pity, because it’s such a beautiful profession!”

The '365 days of flowers' campaign is an initiative of the promotion committee 365 days of flowers, part of Royal FloraHolland. Over 1,800 growers from 15 different countries make this possible. They grow over 150 different flowers, which are promoted throughout the year based on Royal FloraHolland's availability dates.
